Quick answer

Children's bones grow and heal differently from adults' — so many things that worry parents, like bow legs, knock-knees and flat feet, are normal stages that correct on their own. Real conditions such as clubfoot, a deformity or a fracture are treated gently and with the growing bone in mind. Often the most important thing a specialist gives is honest reassurance.

The basics

How children's orthopaedics is different

A child's skeleton is still growing, with soft growth plates at the ends of the bones. This means children heal remarkably fast, and that bones can remodel and straighten themselves as the child grows — so many apparent problems need patience, not treatment.

It also means children are not just small adults: their conditions, fractures and treatment are genuinely different. The skill is knowing what is a normal stage of growth that will correct itself, and what truly needs care — and treating the few that do gently, protecting the growth plates.

When a child's bones need a specialist

Most childhood bumps and shapes are normal. See a specialist if any of these are true — early advice brings peace of mind.

No pressure

Does your child actually need treatment?

Without surgery
  • Simple reassurance — many shapes are normal for the age
  • Watchful waiting, with a review to be sure
  • Guidance on footwear, activity and posture
  • Physiotherapy or bracing for the right cases
  • Time — the growing skeleton corrects a great deal
When surgery is needed
  • Clubfoot — treated early, mostly with gentle casting
  • A deformity that is severe or clearly worsening
  • A fracture that is displaced or near a growth plate
  • A condition affecting how the child walks or grows
  • A problem that has not corrected with growth
Most childhood bone concerns need reassurance, not treatment — and Dr. Vishal will tell you honestly when nothing needs to be done. When a child does need care, it is gentle, growth-aware, and explained fully to you as parents.

The approach

How Dr. Vishal treats children

Every child is examined gently and, when needed, with an X-ray read in the context of their age and growth. For the many normal variations, the plan is clear reassurance and a review — not unnecessary tests or treatment.

When care is needed, it is growth-aware and gentle: clubfoot is treated early, mostly with a series of soft casts; fractures are set with the growing bone in mind; and deformities are corrected at the right time. The aim is a child who walks, plays and grows normally.

Frequently asked

Children's bones — your questions

Are my child's bow legs or knock-knees normal?
Very often, yes. Bow legs are common up to about age 2, and knock-knees between about 3 and 5 — most correct on their own as the child grows. Dr. Vishal checks whether it is a normal stage or the rarer kind that needs care, and tells you honestly.
How is clubfoot treated — does it need big surgery?
Most clubfoot is treated early and gently with a series of soft plaster casts that gradually correct the foot, often without major surgery. Starting early gives the best result, so it is worth seeing a specialist soon after birth.
My child has a fracture — is it serious?
Children's fractures usually heal fast and well, and many are treated simply with a cast. Fractures near a growth plate need a careful eye, which is exactly what a paediatric-aware assessment provides.
When should I worry about how my child walks?
A limp, a leg the child won't use, walking on tiptoe all the time, a big or one-sided deformity, or a clear leg-length difference are worth checking. Most walking quirks in young children are normal — an examination settles it quickly.
Will my child need surgery?
Usually not. The great majority of childhood bone concerns are normal variations or heal simply. Surgery is reserved for specific conditions, and Dr. Vishal explains fully and honestly if it is ever needed.
Is it covered by Ayushman Bharat or insurance — and what will it cost?
Most paediatric care is an examination, reassurance and simple treatment, which is low-cost. If a procedure is needed, Ayushman Bharat, cashless insurance and other schemes are accepted where applicable, with a clear written estimate first — message on WhatsApp.
