A torn ACL — the knee ligament that gives way on turning — rebuilt at Medifirst Hospital by keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery using your own tissue, with a staged, guided return to sport.

The knee jointWhere the ACL keeps it stable
Thirteen years of trauma, joint and sports surgery — and patients who walk out of it.
The ACL is a ligament deep in the knee that keeps it stable when you turn or pivot. When it tears — usually a sports or twisting injury — the knee can give way. In an active person it is rebuilt by keyhole (arthroscopic) reconstruction using your own tissue graft; a less active person may do well with rehabilitation alone.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the main stabilising ligaments inside the knee. It commonly tears during a sudden twist, pivot or landing — football, kabaddi, a fall — often with a "pop", rapid swelling, and a knee that then feels unstable on turning or stairs.
A torn ACL does not heal back by itself. Whether it needs rebuilding depends on how active and unstable the knee is: a young or sporting person usually does best with reconstruction, while a lower-demand person may manage with a proper rehabilitation programme.

A twist on the field is common — these signs suggest the ligament has actually torn and needs assessment.

Diagnosis combines a careful examination with an MRI to confirm the ACL tear and check the meniscus and cartilage. Where surgery is right, the ligament is rebuilt arthroscopically — through small keyhole cuts — using a graft of your own tissue, positioned precisely to restore the knee's stability.
A staged, sport-specific rehabilitation programme then guides recovery — this is as important as the surgery itself. Most people return to sport around 6–9 months, once strength, balance and control are safely rebuilt.
Dr. Vishal walks you through your own X-ray or MRI, shows you exactly what's going on, and lays out every option — surgery and non-surgery — so the decision stays yours.
ACL recovery is a programme, not just an operation — this is the typical path.
Swelling comes down, the knee straightens, and gentle guided movement begins on crutches.
Range of motion and basic strength return; walking normalises under physiotherapy.
Progressive strengthening and balance rebuild the knee for load and turning.
Sport-specific drills clear you to return to play once strength and control are safe.
