Clubfoot is a common condition present from birth, where a baby's foot is turned down and inward. It is not painful for the baby and is very treatable — mostly with a gentle series of plaster casts (the Ponseti method) that gradually bring the foot to a normal position, usually without major surgery. Starting in the first weeks of life gives the best outcome.
Clubfoot (congenital talipes equinovarus) is when a baby is born with one or both feet turned downward and inward. It happens as the foot forms in the womb; it is not caused by anything the parents did, and the baby feels no pain from it.
Left untreated, the child would walk on the side of the foot — but treated early, the great majority of clubfeet are fully corrected, and the child goes on to run and play normally. The key is starting treatment soon after birth.

Clubfoot is usually obvious at birth. See a paediatric orthopaedic specialist early — the sooner it is treated, the gentler and more complete the correction.

Treatment follows the internationally-proven Ponseti method: a series of gentle plaster casts, changed about weekly, each one guiding the foot a little closer to normal. Most feet correct over several casts, sometimes with a small, simple release of the tight heel tendon.
Once corrected, a boots-and-bar brace holds the foot in position — worn full-time at first, then at night — to prevent the clubfoot from returning as the child grows. Regular reviews make sure the foot stays corrected and the child walks and runs normally.
Dr. Vishal walks you through your own X-ray or MRI, shows you exactly what's going on, and lays out every option — surgery and non-surgery — so the decision stays yours.
